Career Counseling :: In college I once went to the career counselor for some advice and help writing my first little resume. I remember two things about this meeting:
1. The career counselor was overly ECSTATIC about her job. She had been an engineer, but had made a mid-life career transition and was LOVING her life for it—which I suppose is a very good thing in her line of work.
2. She asked me what kind of movies I liked. At the time, I thought it was a weird question and I remember sitting in her office unable to answer in a way that came close to matching the enthusiasm with which she asked the question. I think I probably told her The Lion King was my favorite movie 🙂 The point of her question was to see if she could derive from my movie taste and types of themes, characters, stories, etc. that I was drawn to some insight into my life’s passion. It didn’t really work, but now 10 years later I can answer her question. I like THESE kinds of movies! That, and I’m a pro at writing resumes.
